Season One
Diarmuid and Gráinne
A love that defied a king, told in letters that were never meant to be found.
The story
An old tale, told the way it happened
This is one of the oldest and best loved of all Irish stories, a tale of love, loyalty, pursuit and grief that has been told at firesides for a thousand years. In Letters from the Between, you read it as it happened, through the private letters of the ones who lived it. Nothing is explained to you from the outside. You simply open their post, and you are there.
Gráinne, a king's daughter, is promised to Fionn mac Cumhaill, the greatest warrior in Ireland, and a man far older than she is. At the feast meant to seal the match, she makes a different choice. What follows is a flight across the whole of the country, a love that will not be commanded, an old warrior who cannot let go, and a reckoning that waits at the end of it all like weather on the horizon.

Read in their own hands

Gráinne
Writes to Síle
Her dearest confidante. Warm, quick, funny, frightened. The heart of it.

Diarmuid
Writes to Oscar
His foster-brother. Torn between the man he loves as a father and the woman he was never meant to want.
torn in two

Fionn
Writes to Caoilte
His oldest companion. A great man, undone by the one thing he cannot have.
a great man undone
Between their letters you will find other things that fell out of the story. A torn proclamation. A page from a diary. A map of where they were seen.
By now the whole of Tara knows I am gone.
